Google PageRank. Two words that drive the actions of thousands of webmasters all around the web throughout the year. What is it?

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E)

In other words, Google PageRank is a rating system for websites from 1 to 10 that tells you how important Google thinks your website is. So websites with a Google PageRank of 7 are much better (in Google’s opinion) than websites with a Google PageRank of 2.

The rankings are updated every 2-3 months and are not guaranteed to increase every time. A website’s Google PageRank is based upon how many sites link to it and the GooglePage Rank of those websites.

Since many webmasters are actively pursuing a higher PageRank, they buy links on high PageRank websites believing that will help, thus, a high PageRank = money. A lot of people couldn’t care less about their Google PageRank, but if it helps make money, I’m sure it doesn’t hurt

Anyway, Google has been performing a PageRank update these couple of days and am proud to say that this blog has gone from a PageRank 0 to a PageRank 3.
